Cuates means twins

Cuates Kitchen is the creation of Carlos and Carla Rodriguez — twins from Veracruz, Mexico who brought their grandparents' recipes to Dallas. Still a family operation every single day.

Growing up, Carlos and Carla watched their abuela and abuelo make queso, barbacoa, empanadas, and tortillas by hand — the kind of cooking that lives in your hands, not in any recipe.

Friends and family pushed them to share what they'd been making for years. They started a food truck — and eventually put down roots at 3811 Fairmount Street in Oak Lawn.

Dallas Observer named them Best Traditional Taco at Tacolandia, Best Mexican Restaurant in 2024, and Best Chilaquiles in 2025 — calling the food "authentic, accessible and affordable." D Magazine followed with a feature on the empanadas.

Every tortilla is still made in-house from the same Veracruz traditions Carlos and Carla grew up with. Nothing invented, nothing outsourced — they dare you to find better Mexican food in Dallas.
